Mill Basin has a storied history of oyster fishing, mill operations, a smelting plant, and construction of some docks for a hopeful, but never materialized, seaport. The neighborhood is part of Brooklyn Community District 18 and does not have much for public transportation. That’s okay, who would want to leave? The water views are mesmerizing, and the channel provides water access to several marinas.

A gorgeous wood deck at this private residence offers the perfect relaxation spot any time of day. The angles, coloring and grain of the wood have been meticulously crafted for interest and style. Outdoor wood, however, demands its own special preservation products and techniques. Rain, snow, hail, wind, freezing and thawing on the surface, harsh sunshine and ultraviolet rays can cause cracking, fading and warping. Wood-boring insects and rodents can compromise wood’s integrity.

This spectacular deck needed a new coat of protection, so we sanded away all the old stain for a uniform approach with new layers. Sanding cautiously with the grain directions in the different sections was a small challenge, and we settled on a high quality grade of exterior sealer. These products are specially formulated for water-resistance, superior adherence properties and advanced UV protection. We are confident this deck will fare well with its new coats of preservation sealer, and the perfect relaxation spot any time of day will endure for a long time.
