What lies beneath?
Before this client closed on their new apartment home, they wanted opinions on the bedroom floor situation. At first glance, we could see many stains on the carpet. However, since the client had yet to take possession of the property, we could only lift one corner of the carpet to check its condition. Only looking at one corner, we could see glue, tar, and paint on the floor. It was hard to tell if there were vinyl tiles on the floor before or if they painted it a color. Either way, we knew it was going to take some effort.
Once the client closed on the property we full removed the carpet and were surprised to see just how bad the floor condition was. We immediately got to work with a variety of sanding machines, techniques and scrapers to remove the thick layers. The closet was especially bad as initially were not even sure if there was original flooring underneath all the layers.
Communication with clients during the flooring process
We do our best to keep the clients in the loop during their projects. This project, in particular, required lots of communication with the client as the situation was changing daily. Once in sync with the client, we got the floor back to its bare hardwood floor state and gave the client suggestions. Considering there were still dead spots and old stains, we suggested that they choose a floor stain they liked that would also help cover the imperfections. They decided on an Early American stain. Once the staining was complete, we applied 3 coats of water-based finish. The transformation is dramatic. It felt good to restore something back to its glory.
